Most people are totally unaware that an unhealthy eating habit is a major cause of
acid reflux? Entirely based on scientific research, anyone, even infants and young children have a tendency to have acid reflux.
It's more common in infants and young children but thankfully it does disappear in time.
Acid reflux is also as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease affects adults too. This is a disorder that could happen anytime
especially to someone who had just had a large meal with lots of acidic foods or even someone with history of acid reflux having
recurrences of the disorder due to unhealthy continuing with bad eating patterns.
An unhealthy diet and an inappropriate eating schedule can cause acid reflux. If we consume a heavy meal, full of acid foods, an
abnormality in the stomach may occur. The meal basically backs up to the oesophagus and throat. Acid reflux is unexplainable to
many because this condition can occur anytime but are most likely to occur after several heavy meals.
Many people with acid reflux can control their condition by means of medical treatment and even appropriate diet. Some people who
suffer with a severe condition of acid reflux might even consider surgical procedures and indeed in some cases acid reflux
surgery is the best solutions.
There are several surgical procedures that acid reflux patients can choose from. The most effective and safe acid reflux
procedures are Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, also known as Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication and Intraluminal Endoscopic
surgery.
Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, or fundoplication for short, is the most common form of acid reflux procedure. This surgery
requires a tightening the the walls of the esophagus in the area next to the stomach followed by adding pressure to the lower
esophageal muscles.
With the pressure increased between the stomach and esophagus the content of the stomach are prevented from returning back up to
the throat and esophagus. Another method mostly considered by other patients with acid reflux is having the esophageal valve
tightened. This seals the esophagus and prevents gastric acid to enter.
Intraluminal endoscopic acid reflux surgery is another acid reflux surgery that many patients select. This surgical procedure is
much the same as the fundoplication except that a tiny optical tubular instrument is inserted in the body to see clearly where
the actual biopsy or surgery should be performed.
This is possible through the so called endoscope. Intraluminal endoscopic acid reflux surgery is quick and has minimal risks for
the patients. As such, post-operative treatment is not required and therefore it allows for faster recovery.
Because of medical advancement and millions of modern treatments, acid reflux can now be treated. Patients who wish to get rid of
acid reflux can do so because of the options mentioned. Normally surgery is only recommended to people with chronic acid reflux
but is now available to patients with less serious conditions of acid reflux.
Surgical procedures are now becoming a common way of getting rid of acid reflux but it is said that some people regret
it after discovering as we did through research that they did have other alternatives.
We researched many methods and in our opinion having read Kathryn Whittaker's
great book, many would have made a more educated choice.
